Job Description

Position Highlights:

  • The Director of Compliance is responsible for providing the day-to-day operational leadership to the Corporate Compliance program. The Director assists the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) with implementation and oversight of an effective healthcare compliance program intended to prevent, detect and deter illegal, unethical or improper conduct.  The position works directly with the CCO and Office of General Counsel in responding to regulatory compliance issues, including allocating Compliance resources to areas of highest priority based on assessed risk.  The Director acts as an advisor to the Chief Compliance Officer by monitoring and reporting results of the compliance efforts of the Center and aids in providing guidance for the Board and senior leadership team on compliance matters.   The Director oversees the annual risk-based planning process to establish work plan priorities that includes consideration of current regulatory compliance focus areas of CMS, DOJ, and DHHS-OIG and the input of key system stakeholders.  The Director leads the development of the annual Compliance Work Plan, outlining Corporate Compliance department work activities for the upcoming year in collaboration with Internal Audit.  The Director develops and oversees the financial forecast/budget for the department, reviews and approves department expenditures and maintains fiscal management of the Corporate Compliance department. The Director leads/conducts special projects/investigations as requested by Chief Compliance Officer. These projects will frequently be high priority and require strict time deadlines.   The Director will have direct responsibility for the Conflict of Interest, Privacy, Program Integrity and Research Compliance components of the Corporate Compliance program.

  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively to fulfill the objectives of the Compliance Program and address matters with credibility, objectivity, and confidentiality in accordance with professional auditing and investigative standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides the day-to-day operational leadership to the Corporate Compliance program.
  • Leads the development of an annual Compliance Work Plan, including the risk assessment process and outlining Corporate Compliance department work activities.
  • Directly responsible to oversee the Research Compliance, Privacy, Program Integrity and Conflict of Interest programs of the Corporate Compliance department.
  • Finance management
  • Oversees administrative functions of the Compliance Department
  • Leads/conducts special projects/investigations as requested by Chief Compliance Officer.

Credentials and Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s Degree - Health Care Administration, Law,  Business**  In lieu of Master's degree, will consider a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience.
  • CHC, CHPC, or CHRC
  • A minimum of five (5) years of previous health care compliance, research or health care consulting experience, with progressive responsibility and at least two (2) years in a manager/leadership role.   Demonstrated knowledge of health care compliance regulations and requirements in an academic medical center setting. Compliance certification (Certified in Healthcare Compliance, Certified in Healthcare Research Compliance, Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance, or Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional).  Demonstrated experience working with MS Office

Preferred:

 

  • J.D. preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with Electronic Health Records and the implementation of institutional applications.
  • Knowledge of Huron COI Software or other COI Disclosure tracking solutions.
  • Knowledge of Soarian/Cerner Powerchart and Oncore applications.
  • Knowledge of Compliance 360.
  • Knowledge of Privacy Monitoring Solutions.

Additional Skills/Specialized Training Required:

 

  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to interpret new laws and regulations, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding of institutional risks and appropriate judgment to use a risk-based approach in planning and executing duties.
  • Ability to work in both independent contributor and team roles (both as a team leader and team member).
  • Ability to communicate complex and potentially sensitive issues to all levels of management including senior leadership. Exercises patience and consistency in approach and communications.
  • Promptly and efficiently react to shifting priorities, demands and timelines using analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Experience working with enterprise databases and analytics.
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively to fulfill the objectives of the Compliance Program and address matters with credibility, objectivity, and confidentiality in accordance with professional auditing and investigative standards.
  • Ability to abide by the highest ethical standards and exhibit these standards and the Cancer Center’s mission, vision, and values in the performance of position duties.
