The Director of Clinical Operations at will partner with the Senior Medical Director, their dyad physician partner, and have primary responsibility for the operational and financial goals of the Moffitt Cancer Center Satellite(s) operation. Oversees clinical and ancillary staff, ensuring the smooth flow of quality patient care between the time of patient scheduling to patient checkout. Responsible for the overall patient satisfaction at all satellite locations.
The position will work collaboratively with all leadership at the Center and will utilize leadership and management skills to support the mission, vision and strategy of the Center. This position will effectively maintain a system of monitoring the quality, safety, productivity and the appropriateness of services provided to achieve the best care possible utilizing Patient and Family Centered Care principles. This position will ensure that all clinical, academic and faculty support activities comply with budgetary, hospital, regulatory and accreditation requirements. Represents and supports the mission, philosophy and goals of the Cancer Center with provision oversight of the following areas: ambulatory settings, i.e., clinics, and other areas as needed. He/she works with leadership and there to provide overall administrative direction and leadership for clinical staff, policies, procedures, and programs. Responsible for planning, organization, and administration of services to include staffing, training and development communications, and documentation to maintain quality patient care standards and advise medical staff, department heads, and the Vice President in matters related to overall operational efficiencies.
The Ideal Candidate: Must have minimum of 10 years leadership experience within healthcare setting preferably in the outpatient. Oncology clinical experience Skilled in strategic and tactical planning. Possesses thorough knowledge and understanding of performance improvement and efficient patient care processes. Skilled in all phases of forecasting (capital, operational, labor and special projects) as well as financial analysis. Demonstrated leadership skills, excellent decision making, promoting safe patient care and patient satisfaction required. Interpersonal skills to provide effective leadership to team members and faculty and maintain a collaborative working relationship in an interdisciplinary model. Analytical abilities necessary to assure day-to-day operations and strategic planning for future services. Demonstrated skills and aptitude for positive provider relations, conflict resolution, problem-solving, staff development and time management. Continually monitors change and growth in the market-place and works with leadership and Strategic Planning to align the Moffitt Satellite(s) operations for success. Establishes operational priorities for the Moffitt Satellite(s) and works to improve the integration and communication between all campuses. Collaborates with Medical Director leadership and Department chairs to ensure quality and appropriateness of services
Works with the Department Administrator(s) to develop annual budgets (revenue, expenses and capital). Reviews monthly financial reports and is able to justify/explain variances. In collaboration with Finance, the Department Administrator(s), and providers, develops and monitors financial benchmarks for operational budget performance. Operates satellite(s) within budgetary limits and looks for ways to improve efficiency. Balances quality and cost in making decisions on how resources are utilized and budgeted. Alongside the Senior Medical Director, assists VP, nursing directors, and patient care managers with financial and budgetary forecasting, implementation and monitoring
Oversees and maintains effective and qualified staffing resources. Performs all HR functions, which includes completing position requisitions, interviewing candidates, participating in the hiring and orientation process, coaching and counseling team members, as appropriate, preparing/ revising job descriptions, evaluating performance, overseeing payroll, etc. Enforces all Cancer Center Human Resources and related policies. Ensures that team members meet behavioral standards. Participates in recruiting and retention efforts to facilitate an adequate number of qualified team members. Assures the professional and technical competence of each team member, documenting ongoing training and education and competency evaluation. Assures coordination of team member and faculty schedules and communication. Evaluates turnover risks and implements strategies to reduce turnover.
Leads efforts and assures compliance with Regulatory and Accreditation standards for services (Including Joint Commission, NMDP/SCI, QOPI, CMS, and others). Identifies quality improvement activities for Satellite(s). Monitors quality data and initiates action as necessary. Participates in Center-wide process improvement activities and survey processes. Ensures that quality care is being delivered at all times. Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors and team members. Ensures compliance with external credentialing body requirements to ensure successful surveys.
Reviews patient satisfaction data and comments and shares with Senior Medical Director and team members. Implements activities to improve the patient and family experience at the Satellite(s). Addresses any complaints or concerns in a timely manner.
Reviews team member satisfaction and engagement data annually and implements activities to improve engagement. Rounds with all staff regularly. Rewards and recognizes team members based on recommendations from coworkers, rounding and comments noted in patient satisfaction surveys.
Takes lead in department policy and procedure development. Reviews and revises policies and procedures, as appropriate. Ensures all department policies and procedures are consistent with the standards of the Center, regulatory agencies and professional oncology organizations. Communicates new and revised policies and procedures to team members.
Provides administrative support and leadership for interdepartmental projects as they affect operations/ systems. Participate in departmental, program and institutional committees and task forces. Facilitate professional development of staff and self. Identify and facilitate implementation of best practices and process improvement and research opportunities. Participates in professional activities and maintains professional affiliations to keep abreast of current trends and legislation in the fields with an emphasis, whenever possible, on oncology and Cancer Center operations. Demonstrates knowledge of current advances in practice, trends in patient care and hospital administrative practice through attendance and active involvement in professional seminars, societies, and organizations.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- Master's Degree (MBA, MHA, MSHA, MPA, MPH, MSN)
- Healthcare related licensure and certification is preferred
