Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:
As part of the Center for Transformative Teaching, the Instructional Technology Specialist is the primary technical support for the institutional learning management system (LMS). The ITS works directly with faculty, staff, and students to build and produce online courses and material and to select appropriate media and presentation tools for in-class delivery. The Specialist consults with faculty and instructional designers, recommends media and tools, and advises on multimedia production issues. The Specialist is also responsible for developing and delivering technical training to faculty in the use of tools for teaching online and hybrid classes and in assessing course materials for accessibility.

● Collaborates with eLearning Program Specialist to Provide technical support for faculty, students, and staff in use of the LMS and other learning technologies, including email, phone, and in-person support.
● Provides guidance to faculty and staff around use of accessible educational technology.
● Supports faculty implementation of Open Educational Resources.
● Collaborates and coordinates with Instruction office to update and maintain template and train chairs on the use of Canvas in an ARC portfolio
● Supports students by designing and delivering classroom presentations and demonstrations/orientations related to LMS use as well as other digital technologies. Specific emphasis is on presentations and support for the COLL 101 College Success course and for professional/technical programs.
● Collaborates with the Center for Transformative Teaching team in support of faculty professional development.
● Maintains documentation of eLearning protocols, procedures, and technologies.
● Participates in professional development as related to eLearning and educational technologies.
● Attends meetings and/or conferences as eLearning representative/liaison.
● Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Associate Degree with work experience providing technical support
● Experience using the Canvas Learning Management System or other learning management systems, as a student or instructor
● Demonstrated understanding of accessibility standards and practices for educational materials
● Familiarity with a variety of Microsoft Office and Google applications, such as Word, Excel, Google Documents, Google Calendar, etc.
● Experience using lecture-capture and video-conferencing software
● Demonstrated ability to independently research and learn computer programs and educational technology
● Demonstrated ability to effectively problem solve, including the ability to assess and respond to the needs of diverse students and faculty
● Strong interpersonal communication skills
● Ability to work with faculty and staff with varying levels of technical experience
● Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
● Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities and time-sensitive requests
● Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population and to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Distance Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology/Instructional Technology, Education, Computer Science
● Experience supporting use of educational, collaboration, and creative software (such as Zoom and Panopto)
● Experience training others on digital accessibility
● Experience working at a community college
● Experience providing direct support to faculty

Work Hours:
Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. excluding summer which is 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
