Description of the Job
Part of the top-ranked School of the Arts at VCU, the VCU Department of Music is committed to the advancement of Western art music and Jazz as academic disciplines, as fields of professional endeavor, and as catalysts that strengthen community.

Teach the “History of Hip-Hop” class as a part-time adjunct instructor. Students will be taking this course as an elective and it will be open to all majors. Emphasis will be on the origins of Hip-Hop music, an overview of influential artists and recording companies, significant events, the evolution of Hip-Hop, and the cultural impact of the genre.

Required Qualifications
The VCU Department of Music is seeking a candidate with broad knowledge, history, and experience with Hip-Hop music and the industry of the Hip-Hop business. Experience working with Hip-Hop artists and record labels for a minimum of 10 years is preferred. Experience lecturing or making presentations to university students is preferred.

Understanding of and ability to follow privacy requirements in working with student information and communications.

Ability to work independently in a diverse environment is required.
