Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President and supporting programs with the Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative, this position executes integrated marketing and communication strategies from concept to completion. The incumbent is responsible for identifying, shaping and managing the development of high-quality content to promote the unit’s projects and outdoor programs. The employee is responsible for developing, publishing, and/or distributing the content for the unit’s news, recruiting, research, and fundraising efforts. The content will be distributed via news releases, print and digital marketing materials, social media, digital advertising, websites, e-newsletters, digital information stations, marketing campaigns and other appropriate communication channels. This position supports WV’s outdoor economy and those with experience working in and promoting outdoor recreation are strongly encouraged to apply. A passion for the outdoors is a must.


Strategic Content Creator – Marketing & Communications
Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate an integrated marketing and communications plan, including measurable outcomes and performance indicators.

Develop and implement a plan to market to and recruit participants into the unit’s programs.

Serve as the liaison with University Relations including news, branding, trademark, and licensing.

Identify, shape, and manage the development of innovative and high-quality content in support of a marketing and communications plan. Use thorough research, editing, proofreading and fact-checking for a variety of multimedia projects, including media pitches, press releases, websites, video scripts, publications, and social media.

Creatively leverage topics to turn them into engaging stories that can be communicated across media platforms using a variety of mediums.

Develop engaging and accessible content for internal and external audiences. Tailor style and tone for various audiences, including local and national media, prospective participants, donors, and state/local/ WVU community members.

Develop and implement a strategic social media plan to support the organizations marketing efforts. Manage social media channels and content calendars. Track and analyze social and other media reach and engagement using analytical tools and share reports in accessible forms with stakeholders.

Provide expert advice and resources to the organization on how to promote various events, recruit members, advertise programs, and create community awareness on offerings available.

Create the organization’s messaging and goals into recruitment materials. Develop handouts and multimedia content.

Identify and pursue opportunities for publicity and story placement on a local, state, and national level.

Assist with the planning and coordination of special events as necessary to capture multimedia content to create promotional material and news releases.

May support projects that involve mentoring student employees or interns related to marketing and communication.

The above duties will need to be completed with a focus and interest on the outdoors, outdoor programs, outdoor recreation, and outdoor lifestyle.
