Job Description

The Departments of African American Studies and Criminology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invite applications for a 10-month, full-time visiting assistant professor starting August 2020.

We are seeking an individual who is strongly committed to high quality teaching and deep student engagement in a primarily undergraduate, residential, liberal arts-centered institution.

In fall 2020, the successful candidate will teach one section of Introduction to Social Justice (AAS 150) and two sections of AAS/CRI 370 Special Topics: The School to Prison Pipeline. Fall 2020 courses will be taught in a remote (online) modality. The maximum capacity for each section is 34 students. In spring 2021, the successful candidate will teach two sections of AAS 353/CRI 352 Race, Crime, and Justice and two sections of an additional course within the candidate’s area of expertise and based on the needs of the departments. The modality of spring 2021 courses has yet to be determined. The maximum capacity for each section is 34 students.

The successful candidate should have an M.A. in African American Studies, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or a closely related field. The candidate should have demonstrated excellence in instruction, including prior experience teaching in-person and online college-level courses.
