Responsibilities
The Senior Director of Philanthropy plays a critical role in the success of Saint Mary's leadership giving, major giving, and planned giving efforts. The Sr. DP represents the College to alumni, parents, volunteers, and friends who have the capacity to make significant individual gifts to Saint Mary's and/or for special projects/campaigns.

With leadership, strategic direction from the Assistant Vice President of Development and the Vice President for Advancement, the Sr. DP manages the day-to-day portfolio management for a team of gift officers; in addition, this lead fundraiser, cultivates and solicits prospective donors in California and in other areas of the United States as assigned. Finally, the Sr. DP coordinate strategic field work with leadership volunteers and serves as the Adcancement liaison for the School of Economic and Business Administration.

• Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 high-net worth prospects and participates in all aspects of the major gift and planning gift cycle,including initiating contacts with potential donors; maintaining an active schedule of a minimum of 20+/- meaningful contacts per month with individuals whose gift capacity is rated in the $100,000 to $1,000,000 range; moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; and maintaining stewardship contacts with donors in support of donor retention goals.
• Develops and oversees a comprehensive planned giving strategy for Advancement, leveraging Advancement talent and resources for greatest legacy outcomes.
• Provides day-to-day management of individual philanthropy staff, including leadership giving, major giving, and planned giving officers.
• Contributes to and implements philanthropic strategies for key programatic and capital priorities for SEBA. Develops donor strategy goals and supports the dean with advisory board recruitment, communication, cultivation, and solicitation.
• Participates as a member of the directors' group within Advancement and contributes to annual team goals and outcomes; reflects Advancement priority themes and SMC mission is all aspects of work.
• Develops and maintains respectful, productive relationships with key stakeholders, including campus partners volunteers, alumni leaders, donors and community members as appropriate for this role.

Experience and Qualifications
Education:
REQUIRED: BA PREFERRED: MA/MS

Experience: 10+/- years of successful experience in major and planned gift fundraising; preference for experience in higher education, but not required.

Skills/ Abilities: Demonstrated proficiency in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and experienc with development software platforms; comforts with new technologies that support virtual donor interactions and communications; managment required.

Other Requirements:

• Professional experience in capital campaigns preferred
• Knowledge of deferred giving vehicles
• Entrepreneurial spirit
• Strong organizational skils; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and to work calmly under pressure of deadlines
• Demonstrated success and effectiveness in major and planned gift prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, clsoing, and stewarding significant gifts.
• Experience guiding, motivating and relating development volunteers
• Demonstrates perseverance while exhibiting sensitivity to the needs of the donors and prospects.
• Self-directed, high performance individual who has demonstrated initiative and achievement against goals.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, engaging interpersonal skills, high energy, personal initiative and a great sense of humor.
• Ability to represent the College and its priorities effectively with diverse audiences.
• Great attention to detail and follow-through
• Ability to work effectively and tactfully with a diverse group of extenal constituents.
