Job Purpose

Baylor College of Medicine's Occupational Health department is hiring a Medical Assistant to assist with administering shots for the 2020 flu immunization season. These positions will be temporary with hours that can vary. This is not a benefit's eligable position and you will be responsable for parking. Parking cost can range from $8-$14 a day, depending on loctation. 

Job Duties
  • Draws up vaccines and administers them using safe and proper techniques and a system of double checks to ensure accuracy.
  • Must be able to administer IM injections.
  • Complete paperwork after every injection.
  • Provide education to patients regarding vaccine indications and side effects.
  • Routinely interacting with patients while answering questions about potential side effects and other issues related to the vaccination process. 
  • Committed to ensuring optimal patient comfort.
  • Disposes of bio-hazardous waste in the appropriate and prescribed manner.


Physical Risks: Potential exposures to bloodborne pathogens (blood and/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Bloodborne Pathogens Training is required, and a Bloodborne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
