Job Description

Essential Functions
The School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, in the College of Information Science and Technology (IS&T), with the support of the National Counterterrorism, Innovation, Technology, and Education (NCITE) Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) seeks faculty candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in Information Technology Innovation (ITIN). The anticipated start date is August 2021. At the time of hire, candidates should have earned a doctorate in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field. Successful applicants will have a desire to teach forward-thinking courses in an innovative, interdisciplinary college focused on serving a vibrant metropolitan area. Candidates specializing in research on Innovation, Design Thinking, Creativity, Product Development and Design, Human-Machine Interaction, Collaboration Technologies, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position is part of a cluster-hire initiative for our newly designated National Counterterrorism, Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE) Center.

The successful candidate must be capable of developing and maintaining a world-class, extramurally funded research program and productive collaborations with government and industry partners through the NCITE Center. Other duties include teaching forward-thinking graduate and undergraduate IT Innovation courses in the School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, mentoring graduate students that are focused on innovating in the Homeland Security Enterprise, and providing departmental, university, and professional service. For those applying for the rank of Associate, there must be a track record of extramural funding and scholarly articles in their relevant disciplines that can contribute to the mission of NCITE. For those applying for the rank of Assistant, evidence of potential for developing a robust research program in NCITE mission areas should be demonstrated.

Required Qualifications
Individuals should submit their application at the level suited to their career level. Please note that this level determination is only for application review purposes, not the ultimate appointment level of the finalist.
• Assistant: Current or recent PhD candidate or graduate; current or recent postdoc; current assistant professor (including those who are “senior” assistant professors near tenure).
• Associate or Full: Current tenured professor; position equivalent to tenured professor (i.e., at a government organization).

3. Statement of Research – Up to two paragraphs describing a research proposal you would submit to NCITE in your first year. This statement should describe the Homeland Security problem you would solve, potential method you would use, and likely DHS components your project would support. Some candidates may also have research that supports the NSRI toward Department of Defense extramural funding. If this is the case, please also include a statement of how work may serve a DoD audience as well.
4. Statement of Teaching and Service – Statement of teaching and service (including prior teaching experience, teaching philosophy, future teaching interests, prior and proposed academic, professional and/or community service, and diversity and inclusion statement)
5. References – Provide a list of 3 references that may be contacted; please note – we will only do these for finalists; all finalists will be notified before we contact references.
