Job Summary/Basic Function:
A research technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Gaurav Varshney, which is located in the Genes & Human Disease. We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate, and independent individual with excellent interpersonal skills to play a key role in advancing the lab's mission. The Varshney lab is focused on tackling the challenge of systematically validating the flood of human candidate disease genes identified in various genome- wide association (GWAS) and whole-exome sequencing studies by developing disease models in zebrafish. Technicians will use zebrafish and the emerging genomic technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9, single-cell genomics to understand the disease pathology of candidate disease genes. Our research interests span multiple disciplines: genetics, genomics, molecular biology, and developmental biology. OMRF is an independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institute adjacent to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) campus in Oklahoma City. Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS degree typically in one of the biological sciences, physics, or chemistry or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience. Should be familiar with lab techniques.

Minimum Degree Required:
Bachelors Degree

Work Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Molecular Biology/Genetics and zebrafish is preferred.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
