Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities? Do you have an established background in the area of particle science, suspension waste or water treatment, and an interest in the environment? We seek a highly motivated individual to be a part of an exciting new collaborative industrial project to produce an R&D roadmap for the next generation of nuclear effluent and solvent treatment.
This project is funded through the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), as part of their extensive Advanced Fuel Cycle Programme (AFCP). Specifically, this role will focus on using the principles of process intensification, to develop an understanding of research and development (R&D) needs for the next generation of effluent and solvent treatment operations. As part of the role, a full literature review will be undertaken into the current state-of-the art of process intensification (PI) technologies for effluent treatments, as well as different PI methodologies to evaluate potential technologies. The role will also include data analysis of existing case study research data from within the group, to evaluate novel intensified reactors designs against baseline operations.
You will be expected to work in close collaboration with the NNL and also Britest who specialise technoeconomic assessment of process intensification systems. A final critical objective for the role will be to produce an R&D roadmap for the nuclear industry, outlining routes to industrial implementation for key technologies. You will be embedded in the Nuclear Engineering Group within the School of Chemical and Process Engineering (QS Top 100 Chemical Engineering School for 2019) with further support from the multidisciplinary water@leeds research body.
You will have a PhD or have submitted your thesis before taking up the role, in chemical engineering or a closely allied discipline, with a strong background in either one or more of these areas; colloid and particle science, effluent treatment and waste management and/or process intensification of multiphase chemicals.
