Job Summary

The McKinley Lab studies the biology of the uterus and small intestine in health and disease. We use a variety of developmental and cell biological approaches including cutting-edge microscopy and organoid and animal models to understand and harness the remarkable regenerative capacity of these organs. We are looking for a Research Laboratory Manager (RLM) to supervise and manage the daily and long-range operations of our laboratory.


Job-Specific Responsibilities


Execute investigator-directed research, including the independent execution of specialized research methods; evaluating approaches and technologies
Collaborate with and train other lab members, and make recommendations for improvements to achieve research goals.
In partnership with the PI, write manuscripts and give presentations, and contribute to grant proposals.
Oversee integrated use of targeted funds; identifying requirements of distinct, complementary, and overlapping projects to ensure adequate supply inventory and staff resources.
Monitor research progress and oversee adherence to project budgets, scientific milestones, and award periods.
Make recommendations to Principal Investigator (PI) about key administrative and resource issues.
Coordinate laboratory's regulatory and compliance activities; write science portions of animal protocols/reports; serve as lab safety officer and representative to institutional safety and animal oversight groups.
Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising research assistants, coordinating and implementing their training in specialized techniques, and providing guidance to lab members on policies and practices.
Managing the research operations of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, optimizing scientific support for researchers, and plan and execute space use and changes.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 3 years progressively responsible research laboratory experience are required.
Supervisory experience is required.
Laboratory financial management experience and budget management skills are required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

An MA/MS/MPH degree and/or independent research project experience is preferred.
The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, the ability to interpret information and protocol requirements, and aptitude for technical problem solving.
Strong budget management and demonstrated ability to effectively manage is required.

Additional Information

This is a two-year term position with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and continued availability of funding.
