The Web Application Developer for The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is a flexible, creative, yet process-oriented professional. As a member of The College web team, you will build and maintain numerous Drupal sites, program custom modules, implement layouts and interact with The College’s academic units and centers in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Information and Marketing Technology, the Web Application Developer will work closely with The College’s administration, academic units and centers to support and enhance ASU’s enterprise web platforms and digital initiatives.

Essential Duties

Develops, supports and maintains The College’s Drupal distribution.
Migrates websites from previous to current versions of Drupal -- specifically Drupal 7 to Drupal 8/9.
Develops web forms, templates and custom web applications with PHP and open-source technologies.
Implements responsive front-end layouts with modern HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Remediates security issues.
Prepares technical project requirements, specifications, test plans and documentation.
Works collaboratively with a diverse group of colleagues, creating solutions to solve complex problems.
Identifies and troubleshoot issues with web-based applications.
Remains abreast of technology trends within scope of expertise.
Plans/tracks projects and communicates with stakeholders via online project management system.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree Information Technology, Computer Science or closely related. 3 years web and database including creating and updating table structures and views as well as CSS development.


Desired Qualifications

Experience in full stack development skills.
Experience with Drupal 7 and Drupal 8, Drupal theme and module development, HTML, CSS, Responsive Design, Adobe Creative Cloud, MySQL and Git version control.
Experience with current front-end/UI development tools such as React or other modern JavaScript libraries.
Experience developing in PHP and/or PHP frameworks such as Symfony.
Experience with UI/UX best practices.
Experience working in a DevOps environment, practicing continuous integration, delivery and automated testing.
Experience with MVC frameworks.
Experience with security protocols/issues (e.g., SSL, cross-site scripting, SQL injection).
Experience building and testing sophisticated, responsive websites, web applications and layouts using design assets provided by UI/UX applications within the Adobe CC suite such as Experience Design.
Experience with macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux (i.e., major desktop and mobile operating systems).
Experience balancing multiple project workloads simultaneously; working effectively and efficiently with individuals and teams within a diverse environment.
Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working in a higher education setting.
Experience in explaining and translating complex ideas and concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Evidence in using creative and critical thinking skills and attention to detail.

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
