Are you an experienced and ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a passion to uncover the links between powder characteristics and their bulk behaviour in real life problems? Do you want to apply your expertise in the area to develop and improve the latest manufacturing technologies? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?
We are seeking to appoint a talented and highly motivated Research Fellow with expertise in powder flow, to develop innovative powder characterisation techniques that enables understanding of powder behaviour in different processing steps of manufacturing. This role is part of an EPSRC funded collaborative project ‘the EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hub in Manufacture using Advanced Powder Processes’ and is a collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield, Oxford, Manchester and Imperial College and 17 industrial partners, as well as 7 high value manufacturing Catapult centres. The project brings together modelling and experimental expertise to address the complex challenge of the manufacturing steps using advanced powder processes for additive manufacturing.
You will have a relevant PhD (or close to completion), in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, with demonstrated expertise in a wide range of particle characterisation (single and bulk) as well as analytical techniques. You will also have demonstrated understanding of the fundamental physics and chemistry associated with particles, their properties and their relevance to their performance in bulk systems, e.g. flow, mixing and segregation, and the ability to design test rigs and analysis systems.
