Job Description

The Department of World Languages and Literatures at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for an adjunct instructor (Letter of Appointment) in French. Position begins January 20, 2021. Responsibilities include teaching 4-8 units (one to two courses) of first-year French online (synchronous/asynchronous). Qualified candidates will be tasked with teaching one or two morning courses remotely (PST). This position is based upon a semester-long contract and is not eligible for benefits.
The successful applicant will work under the direction of the French language section leader and teach assigned classes in accordance with the University’s and College of Liberal Arts’ academic calendar and approved syllabi. They will meet during all scheduled synchronous sessions and maintain and report accurate student grade and attendance records using approved procedures and systems. They will utilize the appropriate technology, including UNR’s learning platform, Canvas, to fulfill teaching duties.

Required Qualifications

-Native or near-native proficiency in English and French

-M.A. in French or equivalent degree

-Demonstrated excellence, or clear evidence of potential for excellence, in teaching first-year university French

-Must be legally able to work in the United States and all work must be performed in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience with technology-based instruction

-Demonstrated excellence, or clear evidence of potential for excellence, in teaching basic French

-Evidence of, or potential for, effective interaction with a diverse range of students and colleagues.

Compensation Grade

Pay for this position is $1000 per credit hour per semester, with no benefits.
