The Communications Department within WVU Extension Service at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Multimedia Specialist. This position assists with the creation, design and execution of digital media for WVU Extension Service, including video, web content, email communications, social media and other marketing communications. The person works collaboratively with Communications’ team members and others to provide innovative and creative communications to showcase the work of WVU Extension. Reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing for Extension.



In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

Produce engaging, interactive content for multi-channel distribution for diverse audiences, including those with disabilities.
Scope architecture for digital and multimedia projects using wire frames and storyboards.
Photograph/video subjects for use as design elements and acquire high-quality stock content from other repositories.
Enhance photographs and digital imagery to create high visual impact as well as produce artistic and infographic elements.
Manage video, digital and multimedia assets for routine access and long-term archival.
Receive and incorporate feedback from clients and team members to produce high quality work.
Provide video training opportunities for Extension faculty/staff.
Assist with the production and management of web content and email to facilitate requests and produce high-quality results.
Design graphical user interfaces, websites, HTML-based email, social media, and content elements and supporting multimedia, which are accessible for those with disabilities.
Create standards-compliant and cross-browser compatible content for delivery via the web, email and other digital mediums.
Develop web and email templates (as well as final-product pages/email) and social media components (headers, covers, etc.)
Transfer web and email designs from pre-production to production by programming using HTML and CSS.
Review and test adequately before implementing or changing a project and assist with ongoing quality assurance efforts.
Troubleshoot, document and help resolve problems associated with compatibility issues.
Research audiences for projects to segment and target each audience with the proper information in the most appropriate format.
Design content and consider how it may be repurposed in different mediums for delivery to multiple diverse audiences.
Use commonly accepted standards to repurpose relevant visual, print, web content for multimedia.
Evaluate and adapt content from other (offline and online) sources, adhering to copyright and institutional policies.
Research standards, best practices and trends and integrate concepts to improve products and operations.
Collaborate with internal team members to ensure adherence to organizational and institutional brand and style guides.
Collaborate with extended team members from the organization including Extension Technology and University Relations.
Design headers, footers and content for third-party sites and applications as needed to support the organization’s goals.
Work independently and as part of a team to plan and execute projects including high traffic websites, email blasts reaching thousands of readers and other media-intensive projects, like variable length videos and digital signage.
Work collaboratively as a team member to assist others while appreciating differing backgrounds and expertise.
Hold or participate in initial and follow-up meetings to identify and prioritize project ideas and goals with clients.
Coordinate and evaluate others’ work related to web, email, social and digital media content creation and management.
Assist with developing and evaluating goals related to web, email, social and digital media content strategies.
Teach others about web, email, social and digital media related design issues.
Supervise students, interns, volunteers and other third-party vendors involved in web, email, social and digital work.
Promptly report any perceived or real issues, problems or violations to appropriate personnel.
Maintain current knowledge of design, development, software, hardware, standards, guidelines and best practices.
Research standards, best practices and trends and integrate concepts to improve products and operations.
Attend trainings, meetings, and other learning events dedicated to web, email, social, digital media content communications, marketing and management.
Travel independently to on-campus and to off-campus locations as necessary for project meetings, project media events, etc.
Use good file and content management practices to efficiently organize and share projects.
Use project management tools and other processes to collaborate and document work with team members and clients.
Trustworthy with completing time- and information-sensitive projects on time, prior to deadlines.
Communicate project needs and potential scheduling issues and provides status updates on a regular basis.
Perform other miscellaneous duties as needed and required.
Assist with other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination) in visual communications, creative arts and graphic design with an emphasis/focus on multimedia.
Two (2) years of progressive experience working to design, develop and distribute accessible content for web and email; large web site experience desirable.
One (1) year of experience working with formatted email design and delivery to ensure optimization.
Two (2) years of experience with programming and optimizing HTML/CSS.
Two (2) years of creative experience working to design, develop and distribute accessible multimedia and video content; educational background preferable.
One (1) year of experience with producing video for both online and offline viewing.
One (1) year of experience in marketing preferred.
