Do you have a track record of successful, ambitious and imaginative leadership to develop, articulate and implement the School of Design and the University’s strategy by developing an Institute that achieves distinctive international research, innovation and teaching and to lead the Institute Management Group in delivering organisational sustainability?
The School of Design is a highly ranked department with a vibrant research culture and a commitment to excellence in teaching. You will join an experienced, innovative and diverse team to develop a new cross-university Institute, hosted within the School of Design, to lead, co-ordinate and promote colour science, fashion and textiles research, teaching and innovation activities.
You will be a senior academic who has demonstrable ability to deliver interdisciplinary research, with excellent internal and external credibility and outstanding communication skills that can motivate and mobilise colleagues, with a particular focus on developing and strengthening strategic, national and international partnerships that cultivate industry engagement;
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, you will be responsible for driving forward and reviewing the delivery and performance of the Institute, setting annual cross-institutional targets. You will also work collaboratively and in partnership with the Head of School of Design to review and ensure objectives and resource requirements align with School strategy and delivery plans.
The appointment will initially be for a period of 9 months, available from 1st December 2020, where the Director will act as the ‘Director-elect’ for the Institute and build the broader academic engagement to develop the business case. After this period the role may be extended to a further 3 years with effect from 1st September 2021.
