On any given day, you may be called on to: + Contribute to a multidisciplinary, materials-focused research effort + Participate in technical meetings at the national level + Responsible for daily experimental research + Publish in innovative research high-level peer-reviewed leading technical journals + Present groundbreaking research at technical conferences

Required:
+ Have, or are pursuing, a Ph.D. in electrochemistry, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field + Laboratory experience in materials science, electrochemistry, chemical engineering, or similar field. + Proven track record of independent research demonstrated by authorship of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presenting research at scientific conferences + Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

+ Record of interdisciplinary research collaborations + Strong Academic background + Record of safe laboratory operations + Extensive laboratory experience working with materials synthesis and characterization, including ceramics, polymers, composites, or glasses. + Proven background in electrochemical materials characterization, including battery testing and evaluation, ideally related to sodium, lithium, or similar batteries. + Experience with molten materials (e.g., metals, salts). + Knowledgeable about adapting electrochemical testing procedures and materials to accommodate new technical developments + Familiarity with and a willingness to explore connections between materials science and electrochemistry + Technical skills related to programming, data processing, and instrument + Ability to engage and to contribute to multiple programs + Ability to interact with team members of diverse technical backgrounds + Desire to conduct independent, focused research. + Highly motivated and collaborative individuals

Department Description:

The Nanoscale Sciences Department 1874 conducts collaborative leading-edge research that advances the understanding of materials at the nanoscale and enables the collaborative development of creative solutions for Sandia's broad and evolving National Security and Energy Missions. Our research activities have broad impact; and typically generate peer-reviewed, high-profile journal publications and presentations at professional scientific meetings. Our main research focus is directed along three thrusts:1. Electrochemical Materials Science and Applications (including energy storage and corrosion)2. Magnetic, Dielectric and Electronic Materials Science and Applications (including ferroics and composites)3. Nanostructured Materials Science and Applications (i.e., for hazardous materials capture/storage, sensing, membranes, water treatment, and catalysis) The Photovoltaics & Materials Technology Department 8824 part of Sandia's Renewable Energy Technologies Group, conducts research and development to increase the viability of sustainable and clean energy systems. Research focuses on solar energy photovoltaics (PV), materials chemistry, and device integration for energy generation, storage, and efficiency. Security Clearance:
