Coordinator of Organic Chemistry Laboratory Courses

The Department of Chemistry at Binghamton University invites applications for an Organic Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator, a calendar year professional staff position eligible for permanent appointment. The main responsibilities will be the management and operation of all organic laboratory courses, including the lectures and teaching platforms associated with the courses. The Coordinator will update existing, and develop new laboratory experiments and initiatives in collaboration with the Faculty and the Director of Instruction and Outreach. Specific responsibilities of the position are to teach the lecture component of the organic chemistry laboratory courses, train, mentor and supervise graduate teaching assistants; manage the day-to-day operation of the laboratories; schedule, plan and coordinate laboratory exercises; administer the laboratory budget; enforce safety regulations; operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation; participate in and contribute to chemical education workshops and conferences; participate in necessary institutional functions such as, but not limited to, departmental and university committees.

Potential candidates should have a M.S. or a Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a related field; outstanding organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments (IR, HPLC, GC/MS, NMR, etc) and equipment is required.
