Prospect Development & Analytics Director  

Position Highlights:

The Prospect Development & Analytics Director will provide strategic leadership in the areas of prospect research, prospect management, data management and data analytics.

The Director will be responsible for directing comprehensive prospect identification, prospect research, prospect management and training programs to carry out the major fundraising programs of the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation. The team member will understand how to build strong relationships across departments and deliver superior research and reporting services to maximize financial support to the organization. Additional key responsibilities include introducing, implementing or maximizing tools and methods to support effective prospecting and prospect management, including data management, analytics, data mining, predictive modeling and other appropriate metrics and reporting activities. The Director will train and collaborate with the fund-raisers on prospect management policies, procedures, metrics and strategy.

The Ideal Candidate:  

  • Excellent communication skills are required to effectively deliver presentations as well as communicate clearly and succinctly in writing. 
  • Knowledge of all basic fundraising tools and techniques, with specific familiarity with major, principal and deferred gifts
  • Proven experience using digital and print resources such as Lexis/Nexis, Wealth Engine, Dun & Bradstreet/Hoovers and similar Internet and subscription resources and research tools.
  • Experience in report writing and extracting data through tools
  • Experience in healthcare-related fundraising preferred
  • Experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) system, and basic knowledge of relational databases, e.g. Raiser’s Edge, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access



  • Lead a comprehensive prospect development program


Work closely with Foundation leadership and development staff in formulating future fundraising strategies, including the identification and qualification of the prospect base.

Evaluate and implement new research sources and tools.

Work in close partnership with front line fundraisers in the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies to aid them in the fundraising process.

Manage a formalized road map and work-flow for identifying and qualifying new major and planned gift prospective donors.

Oversee the extraction and dissemination of prospect data for the purpose of improving overall quality of the prospect pool and providing assistance with strategies for prospect engagement by assuring that the best prospects are being advanced to the fundraising staff for qualification and assignment.

Pro-actively plan and execute creative strategies to identify major and principal gift sources for specific fundraising initiatives and identifies potential volunteer opportunities for leadership positions and comprehensive campaign fundraising.

Direct prospect screening sessions to identify potential donors.


  • Manages and directs team responsible for prospect development, data management, and data analytics. 


Provide direction and support to the team, including evaluating current business practices and resources and optimizing performance for fundraising and campaign success.

Set clear team goals, delegate tasks, and set deadlines.

Monitor team performance and report on metrics.

Motivate team members, discover professional development needs and provide coaching.

Create, maintain, document and update prospect development policies and procedures documents to manage daily operations including standards for data entry, data mining, report generation and donor/prospect tracking


  • Lead a comprehensive data management and analytics program


Provide strategic vision for information management and collaborate with foundation colleagues to collect, manage, validate, expand, analyze, and interpret complex data to guide decision making and offer innovative solutions for critical foundation programs in support of Foundation goals.

Manage projects to analyze data, applying descriptive statistics and data visualization to communicate information, as well as to predict future behavior and explain trends for internal and external audiences.

Utilize new technologies to identify major and principal gift sources.

Serve as an advocate and educator for data systems and processes within the Foundation, understanding and improving the experience of end-users, anticipating the needs of Foundation staff and effectively communicating with all constituencies.

Keep abreast of tested and emerging technologies and methodologies that will more efficiently and effectively identify and manage prospects, help develop prospect strategy and support data-driven decision making throughout the Foundation.

Coordinate staff training and ensure maintenance of quality standards for data entry, data manipulation and report generation.

Create and maintaining data entry standards to ensure uniformity and accuracy of foundation databases


  • Oversee the creation and distribution of all external and internal reports

Explore and implement new reporting tools to create a robust, self service reporting system.

Analyze current suite of reports to develop in a more automated fashion.

Collaborate with MCC IT to streamline the transfer of data to facilitate in prospecting and reporting.

 Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Minimum Required:  Bachelor’s Degree – Business, Business/Data Analytics, Information Systems or other related field

Minimum of 8 years of experience in fundraising operations, including experience in nonprofit prospect management and research, data management, data analytics, data mining and/or data warehousing or similar data analytics work with a for-profit entity.

Minimum of 4 years managerial experience; the ability to manage staff and direct work-flow is required.

Experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) system, and basic knowledge of relational databases, e.g. Raiser’s Edge, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.

Preferred: Master's Degree

Experience in healthcare-related fundraising preferred.
