Are you an early career researcher looking for a challenge? Do you have a background in Structural Molecular Biology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?
This post is funded by a British Heart Foundation Intermediate Fellow awarded to Dr Charlotte Scarff to study the structural basis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an inherited heart disease, caused by mutations in heart muscle proteins.
This is a 2-year fixed term post (with the potential for extension), in which you will work with Dr Scarff and members of her research team to support projects investigating the structure, function and interactions of key heart muscle proteins with the aim of understanding why specific mutations result in disease. You will use a combination of approaches that will include expression and purification of proteins in E.coli, insect and mammalian cells, mammalian cell culture and protein characterisation approaches. You might also be asked to help prepare samples for electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, circular dichroism or protein-protein interaction experiments. You should have a Degree, BTEC higher level or equivalent, or equivalent experience in structural molecular biology or a related discipline, with experience of working in a laboratory environment, using standard routine molecular biology techniques, and experience in the expression and purification of proteins in bacteria, and insect and/or mammalian cells.
