THE POSITION

The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time, tenure-track position in history/ethnic studies. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, student learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum/instructional development and program review. Assignment may include teaching courses during day and evening hours including weekends. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in history OR

Bachelor's in history AND Master's in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women's studies, social science, or ethnic studies OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject.

Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous college-level teaching experience in history


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

SALARY RANGE: $60,431 - $89,569 (depending upon education and experience)

The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
