Job Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Mechanical Engineering (MechE), to conduct research in the Nanophotonics and Nanomanufacturing Lab. The lab focuses on the photon and sound in the sub-wavelength scales with new insights of material and device design from fundamental approaches for a wide range of applications such as energy conversion, communication, and biomedical imaging. Responsibilities will include working both independently and as part of a small team to conduct research on process design and material synthesis of new surface coating materials and devices with higher efficiency; conducting experimental research on designing the structure and material of a multifunctional surfaces (such as those capable of capturing and cleaning particulate matters) suitable for high-throughput and large area manufacturing (such as multistep roll-to-roll transfer printing process); contributing to grant applications and grant reports; communicating and coordinating research with collaborators; authoring manuscripts reporting the methods and results from the study that are intended for submission to leading peer-review journals; creating presentations for periodic reporting to the sponsors; supervising graduate students conducting lab and/or field experiments; mentoring and training postdocs, graduate students, and UROP students; and performing other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials science, or engineering with a background in computational materials science; at least three years of experience beyond the Ph.D.; extensive theoretical and experimental training; and research management skills.
