Job Description

Stanford University, Division of The Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research is seeking a Life Science Technician II to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and independently conduct and analyze experiments.


Duties include:

Work independently to isolate and freeze Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC), serum, and plasma from blood samples of allergic patients. Perform basophil activation test and assess cellular activation in blood samples of allergic patients. Perform in vitro stimulation of patients’ peripheral blood samples with appropriate dosage of allergens under optimal stimulation condition, select suitable antibodies for cell phenotyping by flow cytometry, CyTOF, isolate DNA from leukocytes in blood samples, prepare cDNA library for transciptome analysis.
Follow the manuals of company sponsored clinical trial study to process and ship participants’ samples to study central lab.
Maintain detailed record of lab samples specimen database using biobank and redcap. The LST will keep detailed samples processing and shipping records of company sponsored clinical trial study.
Clearly write experimental notes (including results), record and organize data according to different projects. S/he will collect data sets from immunological assays of human blood samples and process them by computer software and then entered processed data in spreadsheets.
Help with general lab maintenance.


This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records.
Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
Laboratory experience with handling and analyses of human blood samples is highly desired.
Ability to work independently, be highly motivated, well organized, and adaptable and work well within a highly interdisciplinary team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
General understanding of scientific principles.
Proficient computer skills (Mac and PC) and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Two years of laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in the scientific discipline a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

Work at the Life Science Technician II level requires experience and ability beyond that required for the Life Science Technician I, including increased technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
