Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Rankin lab is hiring a temporary Laboratory Technician to identify, prepare and perform a variety of research experiments according to protocol. Projects and assignments are typically non-routine and variable in nature. Receive no instruction on routine work, but receive instructions on new work or special assignments. Collect and present data to Manager or Principal Investigator. Expected to perform the following duties after appropriate training and time in the position. OMRF is an independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institute adjacent to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) campus in Oklahoma City. Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience and currently enrolled in college pursuing a degree in biological sciences, physics, chemistry or similar field. Basic knowledge of routine technical/functional procedures. Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Internet software, order processing system, and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented and work as a team player. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compute simple mathematical computations. Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals.

Minimum Degree Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm, however hours may vary.

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
