Are you excited by the prospect of strategic leadership in the development and growth of the student education portfolio of a University flagship institute, working in the context of data science and AI as the fastest growing global domain for educational innovation? Are you motivated to initiate and enhance data analytics education and training for Schools and Faculties and external partners?
Applications are invited from senior academic members of staff. The duties of this role require a time commitment of two days a week.
Background to LIDA
The Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA) was established in 2014 and is at the forefront of data analytics education, research and technology, particularly within the fields of health, urban analytics and AI. The Institute has grown rapidly and comprises a collaborative hub of 170 co-located researchers, PhD students, data scientists and research software engineers, supporting a pan University portfolio of data analytics projects worth over £70 million. A steadily developing teaching portfolio now comprises 11 MSc courses in multiple faculties with a combined intake of 685 students, and 10 different CPD short-courses attended by PhD students, researchers, academics and employees of external organisations. Our flagship programmes in Consumer Analytics (Business School/ Geography) and Data Science (Maths/ Computing/ domain partner) straddle departmental and faculty boundaries.
In 2018 the University of Leeds became a partner in the UK national institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (Alan Turing Institute). Other funders include the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, HDR UK, NIHR, UKRI and the Wellcome Trust. LIDA has won major awards in the field of data science, including the UKRI funded LIDA Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence for Medical Diagnosis and Care.
LIDA has recently finalised its 5 year strategy, helping to lead the University of Leeds Strategic Plan and a range of national priorities, including the national response to the Covid 19 pandemic, development of data science and AI in the Industrial Strategy, and addressing the crucial skills gap in data analytics.
LIDA is now strengthening its Executive academic leadership team to implement our vision and strategy, through the extension of three leadership posts. These roles support Institute development in respect of Research & Innovation, Education & Training and Research Technology.
