Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Kirkland lab ( at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is looking to recruit a Research Technician to provide research support for several ongoing projects in the lab. You will be an integral part of setting up the foundation of our new research program. In the Kirkland lab we study the role of chromatin regulators and epigenetics in cancer and development. Responsibilities include stocking and maintenance of laboratory supplies, maintenance of databases of reagents and experimental data, and producing reagents for the use of other members of the lab. Other duties include molecular cloning, DNA/RNA and protein purification, mammalian cell culture, and genomics techniques. We are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented person who is willing to learn a variety of techniques including CRISPR and epigenome editing. The candidate will receive ample training and instruction but will be expected to work independently quickly on routine techniques. This will be a great learning opportunity for individuals with an interest in understanding how techniques are applied in a Molecular Biology lab, and who may eventually be interested in graduate school. Dr. Kirkland was once in this same role before attending graduate school, so he has the experience from the other side to help you succeed and reach your academic and career goals. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the biological sciences or equivalent years of professional, paid, relevant laboratory experience. Should be familiar with lab techniques such as making solutions and pipetting. The candidate must be capable of treating other lab members with respect at all times. A candidate should have ease with preparation of solutions and determining concentrations and should be familiar with lab techniques. Good communication and problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn are essential. Must be willing and able to work independently once trained. Basic knowledge of Internet software and Microsoft Office software. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and protocols/procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversion. Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals. Ability effectively present ideas and data analysis to supervisor, who will decide how to proceed at first. Suggest changes to experiments and procedures. Ability to exchange ideas and procedures with co-workers and other labs.

Minimum Degree Required:
Bachelors Degree

Work Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm, but must be willing to work occasional overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:
• BS/BA degree in molecular and cell biology or similar • Experience with mammalian cell culture is a plus • Experience in a molecular or cell biology laboratory is a plus but not required • Experience working with R or in the terminal • Experience and knowledge with bioinformatics

Physical Demands:
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
