Job Summary
The Senior Manager of Student Manufacturing Spaces will oversee the Mechanical Engineering Student Machine Shop, Mallott Innovation Prototyping Studio, and 3D Print Lab. The senior manager will supervise machinists and part-time employees in the making facilities; help with formal as well as informal manufacturing related education of students; manage the fabrication tools and equipment utilized for instructional purposes; provide assistance to faculty and students in design projects for manufacturability and materials choice necessary for the project; and perform other duties as assigned, including presentation on machining practices to student groups.


Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, technology education, or closely related field
Four (4) years of experience working in a machine shop environment with metal working tools, wood working tools, or 3D printers
In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field plus six (6) years of work experience with metal working tools, wood working tools, or 3D printers will be considered
Supervisory and teaching/mentoring experience
Experience working with solid modeling and CAD software
Knowledge of machine tool usage, hand tool usage and fabrication
Ability to prepare and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and solid models
A strong interest in education
Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally


Bachelor’s degree in instruction or teaching
