The Wang laboratory in the Department of Chemistry at the University of South Dakota is currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher interested in working in the area of supramolecular and biomimetic catalysis. The research involves synthesis and characterization of metal-organic supercontainers (MOSCs), a unique class of receptor molecules recently invented in Wang laboratory, and investigation of MOSCs as a new family of biomimetic catalysts relevant to materials, medicinal, and fluorine chemistry. This is a grant funded position and is funded by an NSF grant (CHE-1800354) and the Center for Fluorinated Functional Materials, a South Dakota Governor’s Research Center.

The minimum qualification: Ph.D. in Chemistry or related fields. The ideal candidate for this position should be highly motivated, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, leadership skills, and independent thinking and problem solving skills.

Candidates with strong training records in the fields of organic synthesis, homogeneous catalysis, and/or fluorine chemistry will be given prioritized consideration.

Initial appointment is 1 year with potential renewal for second year depending on funding availability and job performance. The expected appointment start date is October 1, 2020. All offers of employment will be contingent on the positive results of a background check.

Dr. Wang’s research group is fully equipped with a wide range of laboratory equipment, including an Mbraun glovebox, Schlenk lines, programmable ovens, a Micromeritics ASAP 2020 gas adsorption analyzer, a TA Instruments Q600 thermal gravimetric analyzer-differential scanning calorimeter, an HPLC System, and a Waters Breeze 2 gel permeation chromatography system. In addition, his group has access to X-ray single-crystal and powder diffractometers, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, UV-vis spectrophotometers, GS-MS, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, and other instruments in the Department. A postdoctoral researcher working in his group will receive training in synthetic and structural chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and materials chemistry, as well as professional development. The Department of Chemistry at the University of South Dakota offers very competitive salary and high quality mentoring for incoming postdoctoral researchers.

Applications must be submitted on-line at Applicants must submit a cover letter outlining their interest in this position, a current curriculum vitae (CV), and contact information of three professional references.
