Job Summary:
Academic Advisors provide individual academic advising to undergraduate students. This includes academic planning, connecting advisees with appropriate university resources, and some teaching.

Duties/Physical Demands:
Academic Advisor (multiple positions) to provide individual academic advising to undergraduate students in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (MME) department, the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Chemical, Paper, and Biomedical Engineering (CPB) departments, which includes: academic planning, connecting advisees with appropriate university resources, and communicating relevant information verbally and electronically. Will participate in the planning, implementation, and assessment of programs for: new students, international, transfer, and prospective students. Will initiate academic intervention and outreach efforts, office strategic planning, and Office of Admission recruitment events. May teach a first-year experience or transition course, act as a resource for faculty and other professional advisors across the University, and serve on committees/working groups. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, psychological counseling, or related field by start date of appointment. Minimum 6 months of full-time advising experience in a university or college setting, including academic, career, study abroad, or other related areas. Experience gained during a related graduate program can apply (graduate experience is prorated; 1 semester of an assistantship is equivalent to 2.25 months of full-time experience).

This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.)

Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with a proven understanding of student development theory; experience working with diverse student populations; excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organization, technological and collaborative skills; experience with tools such as: Banner, uAchieve (degree audits), Student Success Collaborative (Navigate), Oracle Business Intelligence, and; experience advising and working with engineering and computing students.
