Organizational Unit Overview
The Music Library is located on the first floor of the A.J. Fletcher Music Center. Organizationally, it is a department within Academic Library Services and the only branch library. The Music Library is home to ALS’s entire audio recording collection as well as the music-related portion of its video recording collection. In addition to these media collections the library owns collections of music scores, books, journals, microforms, and computer software. Music Library staff provide circulation, reserve, interlibrary loan, instruction, reference, and consultation services.

Job Duties
INTERNAL POSTING: Open only to applicants currently employed by ECU. ALS seeks applicants for the internal position of Head of Service for the Music Library, which will be performed as additional duties in conjunction with their current position. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Public Services, the Head of Music Library will have management oversight of the daily functions of the Music Library. These duties will include:
• Responsible for the overall operations of the Music Library
• Supervise two full-time staff and one faculty librarian and lead departmental staff meetings
• Coordinate the development, completion, and reporting on Music Library goals
• Ensure that personnel actions are completed in a timely matter, including evaluations and individual goal-setting
• Review and approve SHRA/EHRA Kronos timecards
• Attend and represent the Music Library at Director’s Council, Heads of Services, and other meetings as required
• Serve as an ex officio member of the School of Music’s Library Committee and as a liaison to the Fletcher School of Music’s administrative office, faculty and students
• Assist in frontline duties at the service desk

Minimum Education/Experience
• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent;

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
• Outstanding leadership and communication skills;
• Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to change;
• Strong commitment to public service;
