Do you have the passion and drive to develop and deliver a high quality service for data analytics, research software engineering and artificial intelligence? Do you want to make a difference to data analytics research and education across a world class organisation? Do you want to lead a Data Analytics Team, helping to digitally transform the University’s data research, education and training?
The Leeds Institute for Data Analytics (LIDA) is a leading data research, education and training department of the University of Leeds. LIDA plays a central role in the University of Leeds strategic plan and is aligned with national priorities, including the development of data science and Artificial Intelligence as one of the four grand challenges in the Industrial Strategy.
Working within a physical hub comprised of 170 researchers, students and interns, the Institute provides data analytic support to a growing portfolio of research and education projects from across the University involving highly sensitive and confidential data, with a combined value of £70m. In 2018 the University of Leeds became a partner in the UK national institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (Alan Turing Institute), and has won major multidisciplinary awards in the field of Data Science, including the UKRI funded LIDA Centres for “Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence for Medical Diagnosis and Care” and “Data Analytics and Society”.
LIDA has recently finalised its 5 year strategy, and has a critical role to play in the digital transformation element of the University’s new 2020-2030 Strategy. In addition, LIDA is supporting the University’s response to a range of national priorities such as the Covid 19 pandemic, Data Science and AI in the Industrial Strategy, and addressing the skills gap in data analytics. As part of our new strategy, LIDA continues to make significant investment in our secure data analytics research infrastructure and staff. The delivery of LIDA’s new cloud based, highly secure research IT platform is nearing completion. We are now seeking to grow and develop our specialist Data Analytics Team (DAT) to optimise the opportunities the platform provides, enabling the delivery of world class data science and analytical support to researchers and students across the University.
You will be a dynamic leader with a data, research software engineering or technical background, have strong management skills and have a proven record in developing strong teams in data analytics and/or IT services.
Working in close partnership with senior academics, researchers, students and professional services (in particular, IT and Information Governance), you will lead our DAT across the lifecycle of LIDA’s portfolio of data research, education and service change projects.
You will have responsibility for the provision of LIDA’s high quality, research focused data analytics services, the management and user development of LIDA’s new cloud based platform, the continuous development of the DAT and maintenance of LIDA’s gold standard data security and protection standards.
This role provides a unique opportunity to support LIDA’s plans to drive forward data analytics at the University of Leeds, and be part of a global movement to ensure the effective use of data to drive research, training and education, policy development and public good initiatives.
