Job Description:

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics Education at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August 2021, contingent upon funding. Primary responsibilities relate to teaching undergraduate mathematics and mathematics education courses, including implementing innovative teaching strategies, developing curriculum, and working with student teachers. Successful applicants will effectively support learning for diverse groups of students using a variety of student-centered teaching and learning activities. Scholarly activity and university service are also expected.

First consideration of applications will begin April 9, 2021. The position is open until filled.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The teaching load is 24 semester credit hours per academic year of math courses, including mathematics education courses and student teaching oversight for prospective secondary mathematics teachers
Scholarly activity that results in presentations and peer-reviewed publications

Service to the university and department

Curriculum assessment and development


Education and Experience Requirements:

Doctorate in Mathematics Education with at least 18 graduate credits in mathematics and/or statistics courses, or a PhD in Mathematics with significant background in mathematics education. ABD will be given full consideration if doctoral degree is to be conferred by start date.
Commitment to quality undergraduate education
Strong evidence of excellence in teaching

Good communication skills and the ability to interact positively with faculty, staff, and students

Strong evidence for potential research/scholarly activity

In accordance with Utah State Code 53B-1-110, appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful passing of a background check

Preferred qualifications:

Specialization in all areas will be considered. Preference will be given to a Doctorate in Mathematics Education, particularly with an emphasis in Secondary Education.
