Job Description

Rivier University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Biotechnology. Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Sciences, the Assistant Professor of Biotechnology is responsible for providing the Arts and Sciences Division at Rivier University with leadership in Biotechnology program development and instruction in the Department of Biology. This candidate will join a highly committed group of biology and chemistry faculty members in the University’s new Science and Innovation Center, a 35,000 square foot facility that opened in Fall 2020. This is a strategic initiative position and involves specific goals for biotechnology program enrollment.

Candidate must possess a keen interest and enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students as well as the ability to work effectively with students of all levels and abilities;
Have a demonstrable understanding of how this position will support student learning in biotechnology, including the sectors of biomedical, environmental, agricultural, and renewable energy. The candidate will develop and supervise student internships in these areas;
Build partnerships with local biotechnology businesses, secondary schools, and community colleges;
Prioritize scholarship involving undergraduate students, and
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues both in the department and throughout the University community.
Supervision Received:
Direction and general supervision is received from the Dean of Arts and Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in a field related to biotechnology by June 1, 2021;
Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate biology and biotechnology courses;
A commitment to teaching excellence in an undergraduate liberal arts program;
Knowledge of the field with a record of scholarship and a willingness to conduct research in an undergraduate setting;
Desire to mentor undergraduate students in their course work, research, and career goals;
Experience teaching biotechnology-related courses at the university level and an active research program and/or relevant experience in industry;
Ability to build a Biotechnology Advisory Council through local partnerships with local
Biotechnology businesses, secondary schools, and community colleges;
Promote a collaborative and collegial work learning environment, and
Support the Mission of the University.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment;
Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information;
Ability to collaborate with other faculty and staff and maintain collegial relations;
Self-starter, ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, and
Computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, on-line teaching, and reporting platforms, as well as online calendaring and email.
This position classification has been defined as exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
