Job Description


The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is looking to recruit a procedure scheduler as a part of the Endoscopy Care Coordination Team, primarily scheduling Gastroenterology endoscopy outpatient procedures. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, and patient care focused. Day to day responsibilities include scheduling outpatient procedures in EPIC, working directly with physician schedules on block availability, schedule reconciliation, serving as a patient navigator, and supporting a team environment.

Job Duties

  • Schedule endoscopy GI procedures in BCM and BSLMC, assuring that every referred patient will have a procedure date scheduled.
  • Contact patients for instruction before the procedures and notify patients of date/time/arrival time.
  • Request additional information from referring physicians if needed.
  • Work closely with endoscopy care coordination team to fill endoscopy block.
  • Work on order work queue to select orders and schedule patients.
  • Work closely with MD for any patient special instructions, including procedure locations and clearances prior.
  • Perform cross-checks for procedural or scheduling conflicts to ensure accuracy of exam.
  • Acquire clinical notes as needed prior to exam.
  • Maintain confidentiality of passwords/codes for all information systems and patient information, as observed by supervisor.
  • Verify and confirm patient identification and patient information including patient precautions and other vital information on all documentation, as observed by supervisor.
  • Communicate in an appropriate manner as outlined in the patient care manual.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior EPIC experience preferred but not required.
  • Prior scheduling experience preferred but not required
