Position Summary


At Stony Brook Medicine, our Financial Analysts are responsible for the general accounting function including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, ledger, account and bank reconciliations. Assisting with monthly closings, account analysis and supporting the senior accountants in carrying out the responsibilities of the accounting department.






Brief Description of Duties:

Prepare monthly journal entries
Complete general ledger operations
Monthly closings and preparation of monthly financial statements
Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts
Assist with year-end audit
Review and analysis of expenses
Assist with various accounting cycles
Account/bank reconciliations
Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures


Qualifications



Required Qualifications

BS in Accounting with a minimum of 5 years of full-time accounting experience required.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
Familiarity with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Audit and Accounting Guide for Health Care Entities.
Knowledge of finance principles.
Knowledge of financial reporting.
Excellent data analysis skills, and ability to synthesize and comprehend large quantities of data.
Must be comfortable with use of technology and new Software.
Demonstrate proficiency with MS Office package, advanced skills in the use of Excel spreadsheets in particular.
Knowledge of accounting software.
Preferred Qualifications

MS/MBA in Accounting
CPA/CPA candidate.
Previous healthcare accounting experience.
Experience with Infor10/Lawson.
Experience with SQL and Tableau or other database and data visualization Software.
