Job Description

Represent the Multicultural Center at various events; coordinate campus-wide educational and awareness programs; supervise the EXCEL Mentor program, especially in the absence of the Director.
With the opening of a new Multicultural Center, Ball State University is looking for an Assistant Director. This ongoing position also includes an excellent benefits package.

Job Function:

Represent the Multicultural Center at various events; coordinate campus-wide educational and awareness programs; supervise the EXCEL Mentor program, especially in the absence of the Director.

Minimum Education:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university by August 1, 2021.

Preferred Education:

Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related fields.

Minimum Experience:

Experience working in higher education in the area of diversity, inclusion and/or multicultural issues.

Preferred Experience:

At least one year of a graduate assistantship or professional experience in higher education in student affairs administration; experience working with students of color; experience working with student organizations; experience with intervention strategies for student success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee EXCEL Mentor program (Summer Institute and fall series) designed to prepare students for their freshman year.
  • Plan and organize the Center's cultural series program which includes cultural entertainment and educational programs open to campus and community members.
  • Develop and coordinate all office publications and publicity.
  • Coordinate the annual Welcome Back Celebration.
  • Collect and compile data on activities of the office for the development of reports.
  • Serve as a resource and referral agent for students with personal or academic concerns.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other campus and academic departments in providing educational programs for students.
  • Represent the Center at Preview Days, Summer Orientation, and other Admission's functions as assigned.
  • Support the Director in developing retention strategies for students of color.
  • Develop and implement award and recognition activities.
  • Advise student organizations.
  • Provide support to the Director in planning, facilitation, and assessment of the Teen Works Summer Program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Recruit, select, train and supervise Peer Advocate Leaders for the MOSAIC program.
  • Serve as coordinator of Unity Week activities and chair of the Unity Connections Conference Committee.
