Job Description

We are looking for a flexible, proactive, and forward-thinking team player with an ability to motivate and inspire learners. Do you have a clear commitment to creating and delivering an excellent student experience in a research-intensive Russell Group university? Are you interested in teaching and scholarship with opportunities for progression and promotion? Do you have a background in Sociology, Social Policy or a related discipline?

Since 1946 the School of Sociology and Social Policy has been a leading international university department for theoretically-engaged, socially relevant and broadly conceived sociological studies. The School provides one of the largest university environments for research and teaching in sociology and social policy in the UK. It continues the proud tradition of social sciences in Leeds that began in 1909, soon after the University was founded. Critical sociologies of the ‘margins’ have been key to the development of the School, underlying its many achievements. The School pioneered Disability Studies. It has played a prominent role in developing realist methodologies and qualitative longitudinal research, the study of genders, and bodies, life course, youth and family research and the articulation between critical race theory and postcolonial/decolonial studies.

As part of our Diamond Jubilee (1946-2021) celebrations, the School seeks to enhance its teaching and learning portfolio. We are looking for Lecturers (Teaching and Scholarship) to help us deliver a diverse, inclusive, non-didactic, decolonial, and digitally-informed student education experience. Providing our undergraduates and taught postgraduates with a high-quality research-based pedagogy. You will be encouraged and expected to build a career as a teaching and scholarship academic with potential for advancement and development.

We welcome applications in any of these fields (but we are especially interested in candidates who can demonstrate expertise in more than one area):

    Society, culture and media;

    Sexualities;

    Social and public policy;

    Black feminist thought;

    Social theory;

    Sociology of digital technologies;

    Criminology.
