About the Department
The University Controller’s Office is a department under the Division of Finance. The office has business units covering the following areas: Cash Management, Banking and Merchant services; General Accounting, Financial Reporting and Taxation; Accounts Payable; Business Systems; Payroll and Debt Management.

The University Controller’s Office works to advance NC State as a leader in fiscal accountability and responsibility through a collaborative partnership with our campus community, strong partnerships with our peer groups, improvements in the University’s financial systems and internal controls, and efficient and effective business operations. The office continues its attention towards collaborative efforts and in providing fiscal leadership, oversight, accounting, reporting, training, and outreach services that exemplify the highest standards of quality, performance, and service. The University Controller’s Office is responsible for fiscal accountability, accuracy and reporting of a $1.6 billion enterprise, including timely and accurate payment of monthly and biweekly wages to over 18,000 staff, faculty, student workers and temporary employees, over 90,000 vendor payments annually and management of a $600 million external debt portfolio.

Campus Enterprises is the retail and hospitality division at NC State. It encompasses most of the revenue funded services at the university outside of Housing and Athletics. These include NC State Dining, Rave Catering, Wolfpack Outfitter (Bookstore), Wolf Express printing services, Student Centers, the Wolfpack One Card office and the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Essential Job Duties
Primary duties of the Data Analyst include, but are not limited to:

Work with Business Analyst to research and provide data needed for analysis to support campus enterprise units with financial and business analytics.
Work with Business Analyst to research and provide data to plan, implement and manage process changes and new tools to increase efficiency, transparency and accountability of financial activities within the University financial structure. Maintain up to date information as projects move from inception to routine.
Calculate and initiate debt payments.
Maintain cash tracking spreadsheet.
Track activity, make entries, maintain records for the University’s internal bank and for student debt fees. Track bond proceeds spending.
Update cash flow tracking files for various capital projects in process and/or funded by pledge receipts.
Maintain data to support capital borrowing plan. Complete annual information requests, annual calculations of cost of funds and available funds. Supply data for planning and capacity analysis
Assist with preparation of presentations and materials as needed. Assist in year end close and reporting activities.
Other Responsibilities
This position will evolve as the needs of Campus Enterprises and other Auxiliaries change.

Must be able to work independently within defined parameters, making logical and informed recommendations. Recommendations must be communicated clearly and supported by documented facts. Will use the university financial system and spreadsheets for most activities.

Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor degree in a closely related field such as accounting, banking, finance, business and/or economics; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Other Required Qualifications
Must understand financial analysis, modeling techniques and have basic accounting knowledge.

Strong abilities to source and query data and organize that information with demonstrated attention to detail.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, or similar software, and be able to present information in an understandable format.

Customer oriented with strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with financial analysis and data sourcing, including but not limited to financial operations in a retail organization within a university setting.

Experience in banking, treasury operations, retail management, and/or university finance.

Creative and flexible in the application of financial analysis and in development of conclusions and recommendations.

A self starter, comfortable with working in a team environment, with intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn all aspects of treasury and retail management within a public university.

Experience with tax-exempt bonds and knowledge of the capital markets.

MBA, CPA or CTP preferred.
