You are entrepreneurially minded and want to leverage your expertise in tissue engineering and product development to drive basic science findings into pre-clinical animal models and eventaully to patients. You enjoy working with diverse groups of people and leveraging your expertise to create innovations that can change the world.

About the role:
We are seeking a talented energetic professional to join our community as a Staff Scientist in the field of Tissue and Organ Regeneration.will lead and participate in ongoing initiatives towards the goal of whole organ bioengineering at the Wyss Institute. With strong technical guidance from leaders in the field of 3D Organ Engineering, you will develop and perform a broad range of research activities and procedures demonstrating speed, precision, and an excellent understanding of the theory behind these techniques and collaborate closely with junior postdocs and staff members of the team.

This position is an exciting opportunity to combine cutting edge hands-on research with the strategic considerations of technology translation and product development. You will also play an integral role in developing intellectual property, market access and business strategies and will work closely with colleagues in related functions at the Wyss Institute and the Office of Technology Development at Harvard University.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

What you'll do:
Assist in the development of large-scale organ-specific tissues, while working with a multi-disciplinary team that includes technical, clinical, and development collaborators.
Design, engineer, and iterate organ-specific constructs based on insights gleaned from collaborating team members who are focused on identifying cell-cell, cell-matrix, and soluble/circulating factors that influence tissue growth and function, with the aim of producing translationally-relevant model systems that enable pre-clinical testing.
Contribute to the isolation and/or maintenance of primary and/or stem cell-derived cell populations. Candidate must have experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique.
Design and conduct implantation experiments in appropriate animal models.
Monitor and analyze organ-specific tissues during in vitro and in vivo expansion, including preparation and handling, collection and analysis of pre- and post-expanded cell populations/tissues, and functional assessment of tissue output.
Manage scientific and technical activities across this effort, including interactions with the involved labs based at Harvard, MIT, and BU and their researchers and trainees. Develop experimental plans and successfully execute research timelines to meet translation goals and milestones, both independently and as a daily manager of a small team.
Provide in-depth expertise and hands-on experience in developing functional assays. Implement quantitative in vitro assays for evaluating tissue functionality, stability, and safety.
Develop and standardize organ-specific tissue manufacturing and surgical protocols for in vivo studies in small and large animals.
