Job Summary
Michigan Medicine Human Resources Solutions Center (HRSC) is a customer service contact center with a team of HR Generalists that provide Michigan Medicine employee’s and leaders with support and advice related to their HR operational needs. We are seeking to hire a Human Resources Generalist to work collaboratively with team members, Business Partners and departmental leaders with their employment and compensation needs. This individual may also assist other teams by answering and triaging incoming calls or other HR related duties as assigned.

The selected individual will provide advice, support and recommendations in aspects of human resource services which are directly related to employment and compensation. Duties include but are not limited to:

Manage the pre-employment on-boarding by creating, approving and/or denying job postings in E-Recruit
Review and approve job offers by verifying the chosen candidate meets the required qualifications
Initiate and manage the back ground screening process for the hires under your purview
Coordinate and schedule employees to new employee orientation
Finalize job offers and communicate new hire information to the candidate and hiring supervisor
Advise consult and make recommendations on requests from departments related too: reclassifications, equity requests and salary offers.
Research and review job descriptions to ensure correct classifications.
Assist with the management of salary setting models for consistency and accuracy
Review all compensation requests from departments and advise on compensation philosophy
By collecting and analyzing data from a variety of sources including collaborating with other HR teams, the selected candidate will review, recommend, approve and/or deny salary requests
Work with team leads to escalate issues and/or triage to the HRSC Manager, Business Partner’s and Networks of Expertise as appropriate
Actively listen to presenting issues and ask probing questions to answer/resolve the need
Advise and educate staff/managers on HR policies and procedures
Utilize electronic tools including excel, Tableau and a Case Management System (JIRA) to complete work
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Understanding of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures and a general knowledge of federal, state, and local employment law requirements in order to answer inquiries and consult on needed actions.
Ability to protect Michigan Medicine values by keeping information confidential.
Ability to handle difficult customers with diplomacy.
Ability to navigate through multiple computer applications and databases.
Knowledge of general human resource practices.
Ability to work in a highly structured, measurement-oriented environment.
Ability to handle high volume of customer calls daily while maintaining a positive attitude.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work collaboratively in a team oriented environment.
Required Qualifications*
Human Resources Generalist Intermediate Level

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3-5 years of prior experience in Human Resources
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications*
Prior work experience using a case management system
Prior experience setting salaries
Broad knowledge of the human resource business services provided by the HRSC.
Familiarity with administrative processes, procedures, and systems at UMHS.
Proficient with M-Pathways (PeopleSoft) and reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects)
Knowledge of process improvement and lean concepts
HRCI and/or SHRM certification
