Job Description

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in terahertz device processing and characterization, with a specific interest in quantum cascade lasers? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?

We are seek a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to work on three recently-funded projects; an EPSRC programme grant on ‘Nanoscale Advanced Materials Engineering’; an EPSRC responsive-mode grant on ‘Coherent pulse propagation and modelocking in terahertz quantum cascade lasers’, and an EC FET-OPEN proposal on ‘Extreme Optical Nonlinearities in 2D materials for far-infrared photonics’.  The successful candidate will collaborate with researchers within the terahertz group at Leeds, with partners at the University of Manchester and Imperial College London, and with international European partners, specifically École Normale Supérieure in Paris.  You will design, process, test and optimize terahertz devices, and then support their integration into a breadth of experimental configurations.

You will join a world-leading terahertz group at the University of Leeds, with state-of-the-art growth, device fabrication, and terahertz experimental facilities, and expertise in the design and measurement of quantum cascade lasers.

You will have a background in terahertz science and engineering, and semiconductor device processing.  You will have excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to problem solving, and be comfortable interacting day-to-day with academics of all career stages.  You will also support the training of researchers in device processing.
