Department Information
The Office of the Vice President for Research at Indiana University is responsible for research development, research compliance, and research administration. Working with university-wide offices, campus leaders, and deans, the Office of the Vice President for Research works to increase and diversify research and creative activities at IU, attract external funding for these activities, and develop public-private partnerships, technology transfer, graduate education, and intercampus research opportunities.

Job Summary
Develops, motivates and leads a highly effective HR team that delivers value to the organization with expert recruiting, talent and development, succession planning and other human capital activities.
Partners directly with leadership to develop and implement HR strategies. Provides strategic HR oversight to specified client groups, acting as a trusted adviser to leadership.
Acts as a primary point of contact for senior leaders, providing expertise and guidance in the areas of organizational performance, culture, and change.
Coaches leaders on leadership behaviors and practices focusing on development and performance strategies to promote engagement and a culture of continuous growth and development.
Leads key HR processes and initiatives, leveraging and partnering with COE's.
Provides strategic HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on the most complex issues to leadership.
Partners to create and ensure an environment of diversity and inclusion.


Bachelor's degree in human resources, finance, business, or a related field.

Master's degree in a related field.


Five years of progressively responsible HR or related experience influencing a wide variety of internal stakeholders.
Two years of management experience. Management experience in HR or related functions.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.



SHRM-SCP/SHPR within two years from hire.

Strong HR generalist background.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
