Summary

The General Thoracic Division of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine seeks a Scheduling Specialist III to join an elite team of scheduling professionals who build positive patient service relationships in a growing clinic. This position is highly involved in helping patients acclimate and prepare for the radiology and testing schedule requirements before and after surgical treatment of thoracic disorders.

Job Duties

  • Answers phone calls and provides courteous and professional communication to patients by phone. Routes patient calls.
  • Uses Epic scheduler system and other software applications to schedule, register, and coordinate patient appointments prior to clinic visits.
  • Maintains HIPAA Guidelines.
  • Interacts with physicians, patients and their families, and all levels of staff and management.
  • Triages calls under the guidance of physician templates and clinical protocols.
  • Obtains and inputs complete patient information, including but not limited to demographics, insurance, guarantor, and clinical information.
  • Initiates financial clearance activities.
  • Schedules follow up appointments and treatment plans under the direction of faculty.
  • Interviews new patients via telephone prior to scheduling appointment.
  • Verifies insurance for new and established patients.
  • Schedules outpatient appointments, as requested.
  • Assists with preparation of agendas, materials, meetings, etc.
  • Assembles patient charts for next day visits; updates profiles on patients.  
  • Calls patients to confirm or remind them of their appointments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
