Job Description

Perform authority control functions to provide accurate and consistent bibliographic headings in the online library management system to facilitate user discovery of scholarly resources that support teaching and learning; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

Perform authority control functions to provide accurate and consistent bibliographic headings in the online library management system to facilitate user discovery of scholarly resources that support teaching and learning; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

Over one through three years of related experience.

Preferred Experience:

Library cataloging experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Verify name, series, subject, and uniform title headings in authority records for new title cataloging using reports and the OCLC online authority file; edit affected bibliographic and authority records in the local library management system using appropriate techniques including but not limited to global authority changes.
  • Identify conflicting name, series, subject, and uniform title headings, cross references and authority records in the local library management system; resolve routine authority conflicts utilizing RDA, AACR2, LC-PCC PSs, LCRIs, MARC formats, LCSH and Subject Cataloging Manual and appropriate reference sources; forward complex authority conflicts to Head of Authority Control and Bibliographic Control.
  • Evaluate authority records that do not have matching bibliographic headings in the local library management system using reports; identify authority records to be retained as reference records; delete authority records as needed.
  • Verify the correct form of name, series, subject and uniform title headings not found in the online authority file according to RDA, AACR2, LC-PCC PSs, LCRIs, MARC formats, LCSH and Subject Cataloging Manual and appropriate reference sources; revise and/or review local authority records created by unit personnel and student assistants; create authority records and cross references for the local library management system as needed.
  • Run designated reports as appropriate; including but not limited to control functions.
  • Assist with cataloging, classification, digitization, and metadata creation activities and projects of limited duration.
  • Perform withdrawals of library materials; includes searching the local library management system for the appropriate record, editing the bibliographic records, holdings and item records as necessary, and revising holdings in the OCLC database.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
