Per course adjunct faculty for the Master of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Development program's course, LDSH 221-02.

Course Description

This course is designed to provide participants with assessment, learning, and research tools necessary to effect sustainable and collaborative change in their organizations and communities. The course provides an overview of participatory inquiry strategies that are useful in initiating and sustaining significant change in human systems, ranging from small work units, divisions or whole organizations, and communities. In addition to this overview, participants will learn in greater depth about two specific action research strategies–-action inquiry method (AIM) and collaborative inquiry (CI, also known as cooperative inquiry) and will have an opportunity to practice one of them. Learners will apply skills and knowledge from this course to a specific leadership project.

Course Learning Outcomes


Acquire a working knowledge of the action research family of methods that support sustainable organizational change.


Design, implement, and report on a participatory change strategy in response to a problem, issue, opportunity or question in a specific group, institution or community.


Gain experience using research proposal development and research aides available through Saint Mary’s College in completion of your course research report.


Demonstrate an understanding of the research method through knowledge-sharing with the cohort and with the course instructors.


Integrate learning about sustainable organizational change with 21st century leadership practices.

Requirements

Applicants must reside in California

Experience teaching online/hybrid courses

Experience working with learning communities

Applied knowledge of organization and large systems change

Deep knowledge of action research methodologies

Experiences guiding learners in implementing action research projects

Practical experience fostering transformation in individuals, teams, organizations and society
