Job Description

Manage the Architecture Building (AB) and the College of Architecture and Planning’s Communication Resource Center (CRC); coordinate access and functions for the Muncie Makes Lab in downtown Muncie and the on-campus Design Build Facility; provide general facility support services for all locations; coordinate technology support for teaching, research, and community service; organize and prepare building spaces for various uses; maintain a safe, educational, and ecologically friendly environment in AB; manage AB’s equipment, design studios, electronic classrooms, and other facilities.

Job Function:

Manage the Architecture Building (AB) and the College of Architecture and Planning’s Communication Resource Center (CRC); coordinate access and functions for the Muncie Makes Lab in downtown Muncie and the on-campus Design Build Facility; provide general facility support services for all locations; coordinate technology support for teaching, research, and community service; organize and prepare building spaces for various uses; maintain a safe, educational, and ecologically friendly environment in AB; manage AB’s equipment, design studios, electronic classrooms, and other facilities.

Minimum Education:

Associate's degree or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in industrial technology, management, or related field; includes information technology training.

Minimum Experience:

Three through five years of experience in operation/maintenance of facility management; includes experience with data projectors, electronic or sound systems; excellent communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

More than three years of experience with communication media; supervisory experience; experience with construction or building systems; public safety experience; experience managing printing services; experience with budget management, purchasing, special

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Architecture Building (AB); includes monitor the condition of the building daily to check for problems and ensure security and safety. Submit and monitor work orders with Facilities Planning & Management for repairs, maintenance and upgrades. Liaison with university Safety Specialist to ensure the building adheres to safety codes. 
  • Manage the Communications Resource Center (CRC) which includes hire, train, schedule and supervise student employees; maintain register and credit card machines and submit/process journal vouchers for charges and payments; coordinate all quotes and orders for supplies and items for sale and use; and monitor and coordinate all printing services which includes ensuring equipment is functioning correctly and resolving any printing problems. Coordinate routine maintenance of technical equipment and submit monthly meter readings.
  • Organize and prepare AB for multiple uses; includes prepare classrooms, studios and other areas for academic use; reorganize areas for special events such as conferences, meetings, etc. Clean out studio spaces and repair desks, chairs and storage cabinets as needed. 
     Coordinate equipment for special events and lectures. 
  • Assist students with technical and facility needs; includes studio issues, plotting, information technology (IT) support and other building requests and issues.
  • Program, load and maintain electronic locks in AB for card swipe access for faculty, staff and students.
  • Liaison with other university areas such as FP&M, Teleplex, University Libraries, CERES and other academic departments. Liaison with university custodial services in regards to building maintenance and specific cleaning needs and for semesterly studio space cleanout and setup.
  • Assist faculty with technical resources in AB such as electronic classrooms and plotting; includes training.
  • Maintain building inventory of furniture, fixtures, equipment which includes distribution for use; recommend purchases and coordinate excess equipment. Maintain computer inventory for the college. Submit inventory reports to Facilities Planning & Management. 

  • Maintain the issuing and return of keys for AB and order new keys and lock re-coring when necessary. 
  • Provide technical support for classes and special events; includes some IT support; assistance with special equipment use; support for audio and video conferencing.
  • Maintain storage areas for archival materials, equipment, furniture and CRC materials.
  • Coordinate access and provide technology and basic function support at Muncie Makes Lab in downtown Muncie and the Design Build Facility on campus. Monitor compliance with fire codes to pass inspection by the Muncie Fire Department. Liaison with utility companies and monitor any issues. 
  • Monitor safety and security compliance per established guidelines; make recommendations for additions or changes to established policies.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance as required by this position.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
