The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Research Assistant for the Department of Social and Behavioral Health in the School of Public Health. This position focuses on providing data management, evaluation, and quality improvement support to the WISEWOMAN (Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for WOMen Across the Nation) Program within the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. This program aims to provide low-income, under or uninsured women, aged 40 to 64 years with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to improve diet, physical activity, and other lifestyle behaviors to prevent, delay and control cardiovascular and other chronic diseases. The West Virginia University Office of Health Services Research (WVU OHSR) is partnering with WISEWOMAN to support program implementation, outcomes tracking, and data needs as related to this initiative. This effort dovetails with the overall body of work within WVU OHSR, centering on improving health outcomes for patients with various chronic diseases such as diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, cardiovascular health conditions, cancer, or risk factors for these conditions.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

Provide data management and evaluation services (i.e., compile and manage data) to WISEWOMAN Program leadership to inform program activities.
Monitor the Med-IT Online Medical Information Tracking System for WISEWOMAN Program leadership needs.
Monitor the Med-IT Online Medical Information Tracking System for ongoing data feedback to participating clinic sites.
Assist with data management associated with West Virginia Health Connection use among WISEWOMAN clinic sites.
Provide quality improvement reporting and feedback to WISEWOMAN clinic sites.
Lead efforts in ongoing reporting to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Overall consultative data management, surveillance, evaluation and reporting for WW
Prepare and submit required federal data and written reports.
Respond to data requests (i.e. prepare data for monthly calls with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention project consultants or other data requests at the state and/or federal level).
Provide data and technical assistance for presentations, publications, grant writing, and program evaluation activities.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred in social/health science or related field;
Two (2) years of experience in community interventions, data analysis and/or public health research, or public health programming/implementation;
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse types of people.
Skilled in public speaking; must be able to communicate effectively and explain relatively advanced concepts, procedures, and policies to others.
Skilled in staff training and development.
Knowledge of safeguards for protected health information.
Ability to create, annotate, and maintain detailed records.
Demonstrated ability to operate a computer utilizing various software packages, including creating spreadsheets, charts, graphs, etc.
Knowledge of evaluation methods.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing. Must be able to compose correspondence, reports, etc.
Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with other personnel in a variety of settings.
Working knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, ethnicity, cultures and their history and origins.
Willingness to fly and/or drive long distances as needed.
Ability to problem solve and take initiative in carrying out job responsibilities.
Ability to apply judgment, discretion and initiative in performing technical assistance and training.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Ability to travel to areas not accessible by public transportation.
Ability to rapidly learn all academic, administrative and organizational policies and procedures within the affected program and to interpret and apply these policies to unique work situations.
Ability to independently identify appropriate applications of a wide variety of complex written policies and procedures in circumstances not clearly described by available guidelines.
Ability to coordinate many different program tasks, determine relative importance of each, set deadlines and complete projects in a timely manner.
Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards.
