Position Description

Rider University’s Department of Graduate Education, Leadership & Counseling seeks an Administrative Specialist who with little or no direction, supports the day-to day operations of an academic department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  scheduling appointments, meetings, events and GEDLC functions; operating electronic learning management, enrollment, budgeting, and data systems to provide accurate and confidential materials and information; assisting with department academic standing letters, department budget, workload staffing, syllabi and student records, meeting agendas and minutes; preparing purchase orders, check requests and petty cash vouchers for approval and signature of Chair; keeping Chair up to date with faculty, adjuncts and student inquiries; assisting chair in efficient and timely communication and reporting within the department, to the Dean of the College of Education and other University departments; greeting students, faculty, and department visitors, answering questions and troubleshooting problems; and participating in special projects, as required.  Individual will operate independently in prioritizing own workload and in determining how best to accomplish work objectives. 

Position Requirements

Qualified candidate must possess a High school diploma or equivalent with 2-4 years of work related experience preferred. Additional requirements include: effective communication and interpersonal skills; working knowledge of standard office equipment; computer proficiency with an emphasis on word-processing, spreadsheet, and data management skills; effective problem-solving skills and ability to operate independently, prioritize and organize own work schedule, multi-task, and meet established deadlines; excellent typing, keyboarding, recordkeeping and organization skills; and the ability to adapt quickly to new technology. Individual must be able to use Word, Mail merge, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, google suite, and Canvas. Must be familiar with Banner to access student information. Proof-reading skills are essential.
