Job Summary

The ABET-accredited Department of Software Engineering in the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering seeks candidates to help meet the strong demand for graduates to work in software applications, cybersecurity and other computationally based industries as we expand degree programs and collaborate with faculty in disciplines such as computer and information sciences, mathematics, statistics, bioinformatics, computational chemistry and others.

We are currently seeking an instructor level, holding at least an M.S. in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering or closely related field.

Successful candidates will teach, be involved in course and/or curriculum development, take part in college and university committees and initiatives and engage in community service. Help strengthen and expand the course of this burgeoning department located on FGCU’s lush 800-acre campus where sustainability is a primary focus. A 125,000-squrefoot LEED-certified classroom and lab building will open in the current academic year.

Job Description

Essential Job Duties:

As an Instructor I or Instructor II of Software Engineering you will teach primarily at the undergraduate level, as applicable; be involved in course and/or curriculum development; participate on Department, College, and University committees and initiatives.
The typical teaching load is four assigned courses in each of the fall and spring semesters.

Required Qualifications

Masters (M.S.) in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation is needed for appointment at the Instructor I or Instructor II rank.
For appointment at the Instructor II rank, a significant experience of high-quality teaching, curriculum development, and/or industry experience is needed.

Ability to teach undergraduate engineering courses and mentor students in software engineering.
Ability to deal effectively with a diverse range of learners and to use information technology as a pedagogical and professional tool.
Have skills in working in a rapidly developing regional comprehensive university with a focus on creating a student-learning environment among diverse academic disciplines.
Interest in collaborating both within and outside of the university in the development and delivery of instruction.
A commitment to collaborate with other faculty to develop a shared vision of the future.
Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning and/or scholarly activities.
Must value continued service to the department, college, and university.
